Friday December 28, 2012. My First Day.
We finally arrived in KDH last night and today is my first time out with the Ace 350. I have been thinking about where I first wanted to try this out and I knew I did not have a lot of time today, so the big quartz quarry would have to wait. It was inbound to a penny patch that was close by. Good luck when I arrived, the patch was empty, no one around. But it was not a sand base that I expected, but wood chips. OK, I'll see how this works. (I brought a sifter for the granulated quartz) I got off to a quick start, keeping the setting on the full range. I just wanted to dig targets, junk and all. First hit, dig, bam! Penny. Then another. I was having fun! Then the unexpected. Nice high tone on the 350, I dig, I see frost! I see ice! OMG, a ring! I'm lovin' this new sport!!! Quickly, put the ring in the sack. Look to see if anyone was watching. All clear. Just then a mom and what turns out to be a nosy little girl come to play. I'm thinking, oh I hope she isn't looking for a lost ring...... Little girl want to know what I'm doing. (Just play kid, leave me alone.) But nooooo. She has questions. Lots of questions. I find another penny. She wants to see. I show her. Next thing I know, she GRABS IT from my upheld fingers....and walks away. Where's her mother??? I don't hear "give it back, sweetie." I don't hear anything. I tell myself, my kids would never do that. Her mom still quiet. I know she saw. I just go back to detecting. She can have it. There is so much more to find. Then they leave, still no acknowledgement of the penny. No manners at all. I say a quick thank you to God that my kids are not like this one. They are even better than the mom. Anyhow, I find a few more assorted coins. Nice day indeed.
Oh, and the ring? No markings. Have not had it checked, but I think it's not real. Oh well, one day......
